Every layer was designed, coded, and deployed by one person. The frontend API calls match the backend responses exactly. The database schema was designed with the frontend queries in mind. The deployment pipeline was built to deploy both simultaneously.
This is not possible with a disconnected team. A frontend developer building a dashboard without deep backend knowledge will make API calls that require N+1 database queries. A backend developer without frontend knowledge will return oversized payloads that slow down the UI. A DevOps engineer without application context will over-provision infrastructure.

When You DO Need a Team
Full-stack is not always the answer. You need to scale the team when:

You are raising a Series A. Investors want to see a team, not a solo developer. At that stage, the full-stack developer becomes the tech lead who hires and architects.
What to Look for When Hiring
If you are looking to hire a full-stack developer in India for your SaaS MVP, here is what actually matters:
Must-Have
- Production deployments. Not just GitHub repos — real, running products with users. Ask for URLs, not code samples.
- AWS experience. Most SaaS products run on AWS. A developer who has deployed to Lambda, configured API Gateway, and managed S3 will save you months.
- TypeScript. Non-negotiable for production SaaS. JavaScript without types is a bug factory at scale.
- Database design. Ask them to design a schema for a multi-tenant SaaS with billing. The answer will tell you everything about their depth.
Nice-to-Have
- AI/LLM integration experience. The ability to add AI features (recommendations, search, automation) is increasingly a competitive advantage.
- Open-source contributions. Developers who publish packages (like env-secret-lock) understand code quality, documentation, and developer experience.
- System design thinking. Can they explain why they chose DynamoDB over PostgreSQL for a specific use case? Can they describe the trade-offs of serverless vs. containers?
Red Flags
- "I only do frontend" or "I only do backend" — for an MVP, you need someone who can do both
- No production deployments — a portfolio of side projects that never launched tells you nothing
- Over-engineering — if they suggest Kubernetes for a 100-user MVP, run
The Bottom Line
